Wrap Up; social networks and catch up

I liked the idea of the Scotland Council using Facebook to encouage people to get more involved with their library. I could see more Libraries putting themselves on a social networking site to get more people envolved with running different programmes.
I have learnt so much in the past 12 weeks and I hope to be able to pass on some of the sites to our customers.
Thanks to State Library for allowing me to do this and a huge thankyou to Kristin for showing me the way.

Online applications and tools

What a great idea. All of the free applications that are available will make accessing computers more affordable for everyone. Google Doc is a brilliant idea, user friendly. I could imagine myself using this when I travel instead of writing a diary.I would highly recommend this programme for the public to use in the library if they don't have a flashdrive.

Mashups

What a great idea.I had a great look around and I have heaps of ideas for myself on how to use this. Great gift ideas for something personal.

For the library you could use this to make great posters or jigsaws for the kiddies for storytime crafts.

Podcasts and Audio

Using podcasts in the library would be a great way for schools to gather information about reference books available for their assignments.
If your library was in a tourist area and of any historical significance eg. State Library, you could have an audio tour for visitors. Visiting authors could also use this at book launches for people who could not make it, with question and answers recorded and given to customers.
For the work place, you could have important meetings that you may not be able to attend, recorded for their use at a later date.
To be able to record an interview that you couldn't listen to and have it for later would be great.

Answer Boards

I started with such gusto about this section but came to a CRASHING hault when I started searching one of the questions "Do Turtles Have Knees?" and my computer was infected with a virus(not impressed).
Students who could access these sites would benefit well with Librarians offering their own experience and knowledge to their questions.
The area where I live is very reliant on tourism,so I think our Shire Council would benfit with a service like this. We could have locals answer questions about our area eg.where to camp, fish, local attractions, also other visitors could offer their experiences.
I think these Answer Boards are a great idea especially for students who may be stumped on certain questions.

P.S. Do turtles have knees?
